Tarn is a math guy so he probably looked into it when choosing and I am often surprised how efficient the game code is in some areas if you look at the giant amounts of things that are calculated in the game. Sometimes when I don't know what to do I also just inspect some Dwarfs and guests and whats happening and those might give me inspirations what I want to do. Yes theres a bit of "The Sims" aspect there because you are not specifically working towards overcoming a specific challenge. Yes eventually you might get bored in DF thats when I set myself goals like building a nice above fort with water moat, taming a Giant War Tiger military, themeparks with minecarts and lava for goblins to have fun with, equippping all my dwarfs with specific exotic armor/weapons/cloth and especially designing my fort and making it prettier. The Storyteller does nothing more than regularly throw Raids plus the same 30 events at you which you will all know very soon even if you have mods for more events. I don't miss the Storyteller and Events though. There are all kinds of critters on surface and in caverns, guests, beasts, developments with humans/elves and what interesting stuff they bring and you can also look at the world and interact with that but yes world interaction is more limited than Rimworld especially modded even though there's actually more happening in the world. Imho a slower pace at least for the first year and some limits on max pop and embark size would be a better choice. She was overwhelmed by the large influx of migrants and wasn't even finished with setting up basic infrastructure or enough beds for the first seven. Imho new player quickly get overhelmed by the number of Dwarfs and you also see that in the Kitfox tutorial stream. That's why I think it would also be good to give the tutorial a pop max I would suggest something like 80 softcap, 100 hardcap for dwarfs + children and maybe 20 guest cap.Īnd possibly smaller size or regularity of migrant waves. But I think a smaller map and smaller number of Dwarfs is also easier for new players to grasp. Now performance is usually not a big problem for new players who might not survive very long. Probably 3x3 would be best but there is even an argument for 2x2. Kitfox Discord #modding-discussion channelīronzemurder and Oilfurnace (illustrated)įrom this clip here it seems the tutorial uses 4x4 which is a bad choice for performance and overwhelming the player.
